Louis Ott began his career in 1886 as a volunteer firefighter for the Atlantic Engine Company located on Beach 86 st., later moved to Beach 94 st. After deciding to go into the hotel and liquor business, Ott had his liquor license approved for the neighboring town of Hempstead on September 26, 1890. He ran two hotels, one on the west side of the LIRR (Long Island Rail Road) in Broad Channel, Jamaica Bay, and the other on Brooklyn ave. and Rockaway rd. in the town of Valley Stream, located on Long Island. He was also a bottler who's biggest contract was for the Joseph Fallert Brewing Company Limited of Brooklyn. He specifically bottled their brand of standard lager beer. Closer towards the end of his career he added a fishing service to the Broad Channel branch of his hotel. Sierichs, Henry, & Co.Address: UNKNOWN
The company opened in 1875 in Manhattan and closed in 1917 in Queens. This bottler was a member of the Rockaway Bottlers Protective Association of Rockaway Beach NY (SEE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE). SEE MANHATTAN VARIANTS UNDER Blob Tops: Manhattan PAGE. SEE SMALL VARIANT FURTHER DOWN THE PAGE. |
Rockaway - Far
Kane Bros.Address: UNKNOWN
No info on this company due to an error on either the embossing of the bottle, or the historical records. The only name similar "Kane Brothers" in Far Rockaway was the "O'Kane Brothers". However, there were also four other individual "Kane" names listed as operating in Far Rockaway and the immediately surrounding neighborhoods. Until I can find a specific reference, I will not put down the history of any of the above mentioned companies. |

Steinway
Folcke, HermannAddress: 403 Winthrop ave.
The address is confusing as Winthrop avenue is not found in Steinway. The closest match is 403 Winthrop street in Brooklyn, but in that case the embossing on the bottle wouldnt not be Steinway / Long Island City which are next to each other in northern queens. No info on this bottle. |
